Why does my breaker keep tripping?
Because it is working. Either the circuit is carrying more than it is rated for, or there is a short or ground fault. Repeatedly resetting a breaker that keeps tripping is the one response that is genuinely dangerous.
Do I need a panel upgrade?
It comes down to capacity and condition. A full panel with no spaces, a fuse box, or certain brands that are no longer considered safe are all reasons. Adding an EV charger, heat pump or shop usually forces the question.
Is old wiring dangerous?
Not automatically. Knob-and-tube and cloth-covered wiring can be intact and working, but neither has a ground, both were designed for a fraction of today's load, and insurers increasingly will not cover a house with them.
What does adding an EV charger involve?
A load calculation first, then a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to the charger and a run from the panel to where the car parks. If the panel cannot carry it, the panel comes first, which is why the calculation happens before the quote.
Does electrical work need a permit?
Panel changes, new circuits and service upgrades do. A permit means an inspection, and an inspection is the only independent check that the work is right. A contractor who wants to skip it is telling you something.
